Large portions of two licence areas located between 50 and 80 km north of Ceduna, with a combined total subject area of 1119.6 square km, have now been relinquished by Iluka in compliance with statutory requirements made under the company's Eucla Basin exploration tenement Group 2 Amalgamated Expenditure Agreement with PIRSA/DMITRE. The north-western portion of this tenement group covers the so-called "Bay-of-Plenty" Eocene palaeogeographic feature, which hosts the Mojave and Kalahari prospects. This part of Group 2 will be retained for further exploration. Within the relinquished northern portion of EL 4424, Iluka has completed 48 exploratory vertical aircore drillholes with a total penetration of 2612.5 m, nominally spaced 50 m apart along drill traverses spaced a minimum of 1 km apart. 162 composite drill cuttings samples were submitted for heavy mineral analysis. 3 holes yielded significant HM intercepts, i.e. having a heavy mineral content in the received sample which is >1%, with a best intercept of 1.5 m @ 3.5% HM recorded from hole YE1355 below 9 m depth, while nearby hole YE1353 contained a wider but <1.2% mineralised interval extending from 12-18 m depth. Within the relinquished eastern portion of EL 4546, Iluka has completed 43 exploratory vertical aircore drillholes with a total penetration of 1004.5 m. 60 composite drill cuttings samples were submitted for heavy mineral analysis. 2 holes yielded significant HM intercepts. A best intercept of 1.5 m @ 4.2% HM was recorded from hole YE1627 below 15 m depth, with a richer, 0.1 m thick, basal strand facies HM stringer grading 7.8% being cut at 19.5 m depth in this hole. Despite these rare showings, the majority of the above relinquished ground is considered by Iluka to be non-prospective for Tertiary HM occurrence, due to the apparent absence or poor development of marine marginal sands.
