A search primarily directed at assessing the stratiform copper and magnesite potential of an area centred 50 km south-west of Marree has consisted mainly of office studies comprising the collection and review of open file geoscientific data. Early in September 2013, a regional soil sampling programme was begun, looking for possible surface geochemical evidence of the presence of carbonatite intrusions which could have rare earth mineral prospectivity. Sampling traverses were laid out at 800 m spacing across the middle section of the licence, with the intended sample points lying 100 m apart along these traverses. However, only 116 samples out of a proposed 576 sample coverage were collected and submitted for assay before the licensee realised that it had allowed initiation of the renewal process for retaining legal tenure of the EL 4559 ground to lapse by an interval of almost 6 weeks, so work ceased, and the existing sample assay results were not provided to DMITRE, pending a decision about whether the tenement should be re-issued. DMITRE's decision was that this action should not occur.
