A structurally deformed area in the southwestern corner of SML 704, having many copper carbonate showings and small historic workings known as the Yudnamutana Mining Field, has been mapped at a semi-detailed scale. The area is transected by the Jubilee Fault, a major WNW-ESE trending transcurrent ( > 4000 feet of lateral displacement) feature, which terminates in the southeast against the Mount McDonnell Fault. Several rejuvenated splinter faults, plus a number of cross-cutting younger faults, have broadened and modified the trace of the main fault. Primary mineralisation noted within the mapped area occurs as: a) stratiform controlled pyrite, magnetite, chalcopyrite mineralisation in the carbonate units of the Wywyana Formation; b) pneumatolytic-metasomatic emanations located some distance out from the Wywyana proper. The most intense metasomatic alteration occurs where the Wywyana is most intensely deformed. Accordingly, local shears and unconformities (marked by conglomerates) should be targetted by follow-up detailed geological mapping; sampling of the mineralisation should aim for rocks lying well beneath the pronounced weathering zone.
