Exploration for possible Challenger - type primary gold deposits formed within buried Archaean basement rocks in a multi-block licence area located roughly mid-way between Tarcoola and Coober Pedy is being conducted under a joint venture agreement made between Minotaur Gold and farminee Gawler Gold and Mineral Exploration. During May 1997, the joint venture partners initially flew 12,944 line km of 100 m/200 m spaced regional aeromagnetic profiles across their contiguous exploration tenement package at Commonwealth Hill, which includes EL 2171, generating structural targets which were then investigated with intensive geochemical analyses of auger-dug calcrete samples. Within the northernmost block of the subject licence (Nelson Bore), 221 such reconnaissance calcrete samples were collected during July 1997 on a nominal triangular grid spacing (1 km long base and two sides of 700 m); this grid was infilled at five prospects during June 1998 with an additional 291 samples collected. The assay data for these calcrete samples is herewith released to open file.
