An area centred ~7 km west-southwest of Morgan has been explored since 8/7/2013 by Iluka Resources (Iluka) for possible economic buried Tertiary heavy mineral sands deposits. The company was targeting any mineralised Loxton-Parilla Sand (LPS) sediments deposited during the Pliocene marine regression, its efforts directed towards identifying any higher grade, coarse-grained strands in regions of favourable mineral assemblage. No drilling was undertaken on EL 4452 by Gold Fields Australasia, the previous owner of the tenement. The only work undertaken by Iluka during the reporting period was the drilling in 2013 of 5 exploratory vertical open aircore holes for 120 m in the vicinity of the Bower - Morgan Road, seeking to confirm the absence of the Loxton - Parilla Sands as recorded by historical stratigraphic drilling. Three holes were put in ~1 km apart along traverse ST078, and the other two holes were sited to test stratigraphic targets. No Loxton Sand was encountered in any of the holes, and no mineralisation was seen. Since the area obviously lacked prospectivity for heavy mineral sands, a decision was made to fully surrender tenure.
