Afmeco Mining and Exploration Pty Ltd is exploring for possible economic sedimentary uranium mineralisation which may have formed within porous sand units of the Tertiary Callabonna Sub-basin. The subject EL 4623 is part of 7-licence tenement package known as the Curnamona Project which is wholly held by Afmeco. At present (late 2011), it is apparent that the south-western Lake Frome Plains area both locally and regionally holds good potential for discovering deposits of ‘palaeochannel type’ uranium mineralisation, according to geological and geophysical evidence revealed by previous drilling which Afmeco conducted during 2007 and 2008 on adjacent licences. Afmeco is now in the process of negotiating a large, strategic joint venture partnership to try to obtain funds to continue exploration within EL 4623 and the rest of the Curnamona Project, and a drilling programme is planned to begin within the next six-month reporting period to test selected airborne EM anomalies. During the 2010-2011 reporting year, subject licence activities consisted of making administrative and technical preparations for this drilling programme, and no on-ground exploration activities were undertaken.
