An area centred ~160 km southwest of Coober Pedy, that is located on and immediately south of the Karari Fault, a major crustal structure which has controlled deposition at the southern limit of the Permian to Tertiary sediment-filled Tallaringa Trough, has been explored for possible buried economic sandstone-hosted secondary uranium deposits which might have formed within northwards-draining tributaries of the Tertiary Garford Palaeochannel. Another, deeper objective was possible primary uranium occurrences within Archaean basement rocks subcropping to the south of the major regional fault trace, probably in association with any IOCG or other style base and precious metal mineralisation which could have formed there. During the first licence year, Quasar acquired part of a multi-licence detailed airborne magnetic/radiometric survey which was flown over the period November 2008 to January 2009. A total of approximately 43,003 line km were surveyed along 100 m spaced north-south flight lines at a mean sensor height above the surface of 50 m: the subset of coverage over the subject EL 4209 amounted to 11,270 line km. The survey data were processed and assessed, following which plans were made to carry out soil calcrete geochemical sampling over the entire licence at 800 m centres, and also to acquire a ground gravity survey over the portion of the Garford Palaeochannel which lies within the licence area. During licence Year 2, no field work was done. An application for the grant of a Deed of Access to the WPA was submitted to the Commonwealth Government. A work area Aboriginal heritage clearance survey was conducted by the company with representatives of the Antakirinja Land Management Council Native Title claimants, and a reconnaissance trip was also made to assess suitable camp sites to use for the proposed soil sampling programme. During licence Years 3 through 6, no field work was done. The WPA Deed of Access for an initial six months was granted to Quasar in 2011, but maintaining further currency required Quasar to remain in frequent discussions with the Department of Defence. Not long after the issue of subsequent licence EL 5352, tenure was fully surrendered.
