An area centred ~20 km south-west of Morgan has been explored by Iluka Resources (Iluka) for possible economic buried Tertiary heavy mineral sands deposits. The company was targeting any mineralised Loxton-Parilla Sand (LPS) sediments deposited during the Pliocene marine regression, its efforts concentrating on identifying any higher grade, coarse-grained strands in regions of favourable mineral assemblage. No drilling activities was undertaken by Iluka during the reporting period. Drilling that the company undertook in 2013 on its ELs 4452 and 5069 situated nearby to the north, and the findings it made from doing a detailed review of mineral sands exploration data previously acquired in the region, had lately suggested that the subject tenement held no prospectivity for heavy mineral sands, and so a decision was made to fully surrender tenure.
