An area centred ~300 km SW of Coober Pedy, and lying wholly within the Maralinga Tjarutja Aboriginal Lands, has been explored for possible buried economic sandstone-hosted secondary uranium deposits which might have formed within the Palaeocene Wilkinson Palaeochannel or within far western extensions of the Tallaringa Palaeochannel. The Challenger gold mine is located approximately 95 km east of the nearest point along the eastern boundary of the area. During licence Years 1 through 5, no field work was done. Earlier, on 23/11/2009, Quasar had signed an Indigenous Land Use Agreement (ILUA) with the Maralinga-Tjarutja people. A Deed of Exploration (Access) for the Woomera Prohibited Area for an initial six months was granted to Quasar in 2011, but maintaining further currency had required Quasar to remain in frequent discussions with the Department of Defence. In July 2014, it was decided to fully surrender tenure.
