An area of limited deep past drilling that is centred ~80 km east of Coober Pedy has been explored for possible buried economic IOCG mineralisation and also for buried magmatic nickel deposits. During the year, historic open file reports and drillhole data were compiled and studied to look for recorded evidence of mineralisation or alteration that might have IOCG affinity, but none was disclosed. Reprocessing and examination of regional magnetic and gravity data showed no untested prospective anomalies worthy of follow-up. Vale's detailed depth to basement modelling performed using reprocessed data from available geophysical datasets has indicated that the depth to reach basement across the majority of the tenement exceeds 400 m. At present, this thickness of cover is considered economically prohibitive for proceeding with the development of any IOCG deposits which might be discovered. As a result of its negative findings, coupled with it having difficulties in obtaining Aboriginal heritage clearance negotiations for on-ground land access, Vale decided on 29/4/2014 to fully surrender EL 5227.
