A small area centred ~20 km north-west of William Creek has been explored for possible economic buried IOCG mineralisation, which could have formed in Mesoproterozoic basement rocks that in the surrounding region exhibit several large coincident magnetic / gravity anomalies which appear to be comparable to the anomalies characterising the Olympic Dam and Prominent Hill deposits. During the first licence year, no work was done. During licence Year 2, farminee Barrick Gold began work in September 2008 by acquiring an infill ground gravity survey of 1152 stations, read on a 500 m x 500 m regular grid, closing in by offset to ~350 m apart in the southern part of the licence area, to better define gravity anomalies discerned from the 2006 survey data that had been read for Alliance Craton Explorer on former EL 3533 (see Env 11416) and the local subset of semi-regional gravity data released from the 2007 PACE Initiative Northern G2 Corridor Gravity Survey. After examining the merged new and older gravity datasets, two gravity anomalies were picked as perhaps having IOCG - related causes. Over the period November 2008 to February 2009, both of these anomalies were tested by single drillholes, when 2 vertical RC and HQ/NQ2 diamond tailed holes were drilled for a combined total penetration of 1063.11 m, including 725.01 m of coring within basement. Both holes did not reach their target Proterozoic crystalline basement, but were ended when within the lower ?Skillogalee Dolomite part of a thick package of dense Neoproterozoic metasedimentary rocks. Remodelling of the gravity data for each anomaly using specific gravity values obtained from the rock types encountered in the drill cores suggested to Barrick that the gravity anomalies existed because a thick folded package of these dense Neoproterozoic rocks overlies an uplifted block of unaltered Paleoproterozoic Peake and Denison basement. No mineralisation was found, and no significant downhole sample assay results were returned from nominal 2-metre depth interval sampling of all of the drill core plus 4-metre depth interval composite sampling of the precollar sectin in each hole (total 565 samples). Not long afterwards, Barrick Gold decided to withdraw from further JV participation. During the next five years of tenure, no work was done on the subject licence. Tenure was allowed to lapse at the end of Year 7.

Notes: On 28/2/2008, the 100% transfer of ownership of EL 3891 from Certified First Resources (International) Pty Ltd to Rommark Resources Pty Ltd was approved by the SA Minister of Mines. On 25/7/2008, Barrick Gold farmed into EL 3891 under the provisions of a JV Letter of Intent, to investigate selected IOCG targets, but following the conduct of a short work programme subsequently withdrew from this joint venture on 31/9/2009.
