Recently, seven small licence portions totalling 48 square km or ~19.3% of the former area of EL 4597 were relinquished on 16/6/2014 to comply in part with the terms of the 2013 renewal period of the Flinders Ranges Project tenement group's Amalgamated Expenditure Agreement (AEA). The portions of EL 4597 selected for relinquishment primarily contain exposed Precambrian bedrock or else the bedrock there underlies a significant thickness of Quaternary cover sediments. None have easily accessible Cambrian Hawker Group limestones or dolomites, the recognised primary host for zinc silicate mineralisation that is Perilya’s primary exploration target in the Flinders Ranges Project region. Previous exploration on the relinquished ground is limited, with no known drilling recorded. A scattering of stream sediment geochemical samples located in the northern sub-block of the tenement were collected and assayed by North Flinders Mines in 1970, but no significant base metal values were returned. Given the lack of prospective strata and absence of any other favourable geological indicators, Perilya decided to relinquish these parts of the licence. No field work was done on the now relinquished ground portions during their tenure. The only exploration activities were an office-based geological data compilation and the purchase of regional Aster multispectral satellite imagery to inspect for signatures of carbonate rock outcrops and possible hydrothermal alteration. No prominent spectral reflectance or absorption features could be identified which might require ground follow-up.
