The Neoproterozoic Beda Basalt consists of a succession of subaerial, amygdaloidal to massive, tholeiitic basalt flows interbedded with fluvial sandstones and conglomerates of the Backy Point Formation, which is exposed around the Cultana Inlier, an up-faulted block of the Gawler Craton on the northeast Eyre Peninsula, and occurs extensively in the subsurface within the Stuart Shelf. This article provides new geochemical and isotopic data and a formal definition of the Beda Basalt.
