An area centred ~270 km west of Tarcoola and 25 km south of Maralinga, and lying on Maralinga Tjarutja Aboriginal Land immediately north of the Trans Australia Railway line, was taken up to explore for any large heavy mineral sand placer deposits that may occur within the local Tertiary Eucla Basin fluvio-marine sedimentary cover. During the first licence year, in October 2012, an Aboriginal heritage clearance survey was conducted across the area using a helicopter, with significant sites pointed out by representatives of the Maralinga Tjarutja people. The result of doing this heritage survey was a sterilisation of much of the tenement due to the communication about heritage sensitivities. The only other work undertaken was a review of relevant geological literature. During licence Year 2, the joint venture partners reviewed the viability and logistics of their intended exploration programme, in view of the areas for which access had been denied as a result of the Aboriginal heritage clearance inspection. It was decided not to apply to renew tenure of the licence on expiry.
