Extensive infill drilling carried out by Australian Zircon on the Mindarie 'A2' and Mindarie 'C' heavy mineral sands (HMS) deposits during the past year has provided improved definition of their resource boundaries, thus enabling the accurate evaluation of recoverable reserves and the preparation of optimised pit designs. Drilling of several conceptual HMS targets in the Morgan NE sub-block of the licence area, via two reconnaissance traverses incorporating 100 vertical aircore holes for a total penetration of 2203 m, failed to encounter any significant evidence of HMS deposition. Consequently it was decided to relinquish the majority of this sub-block. The Tertiary stratigraphic sequence encountered downhole here was typically yellow brown, fine and coarse, variably micaceous quartz sands interpreted to be Loxton Sands, overlying dark green / grey carbonaceous marly clays (possible Bookpurnong Beds) developed over a yellow limestone (possible Morgan Limestone). Intervals of green / grey silty clays interpreted as Blanchetown Clay were present in several areas in the north of the drilling coverage. Holes were spaced 300 m apart in general. The maximum content of heavy minerals estimated visually in the panned drill cuttings 1- metre samples was only 0.2%.
