An area located between the eastern escarpment of the Flinders Ranges and the south-western edge of Lake Frome, and situated beyond the south-western margin of the Tertiary Poontana Sub-basin which hosts the Beverley and Beverley - 4 Mile sedimentary uranium deposits, is being explored for economic buried sedimentary uranium mineralisation that is likely to have formed in a similar basin margin stratigraphic and structural setting. The subject EL 3392 has impermeable but variably uraniferous Proterozoic “basement” rocks outcropping along its western and southern sides. Airborne TEMPEST electromagnetic surveys recently conducted elsewhere within the West Lake Frome Project area (on Scimitar's separate ELs 3388 and 3410) have indicated that highly conductive basement faults, which define the eastern edge of the Flinders Ranges basement, are in contact with target sands of the Namba and Eyre Formations at depth. These faults are thought to be associated with the localisation of uranium mineralisation at the Beverley 4 Mile uranium deposit, which is located a distance to the north. A number of these fault structures lead into the northern part of EL 3392, and are regarded by the licensee as a target and potential source for uranium mineralisation. The two areas to the south which are now relinquished have been assessed by Scimitar to not be prospective for sediment-hosted uranium mineralisation because they lack well-developed Tertiary strata, and lie too far removed from the fault structures of interest. No work was done on these areas.
