A small area centred ~35 km south-east of Peterborough is being explored for possible economic buried diamond mineral occurrences in the cover and bedrock that may exist in association with formerly extrusive to sub-volcanic bodies of kimberlite. The licence consortium's preferred way to find such source bodies for diamonds is to test certain geophysical targets, namely, discrete, high frequency, high magnetic intensity anomalies and/or discrete high potassium radiometric anomalies. During the reporting year, work undertaken comprised a study of reprocessed regional aeromagnetic, hyperspectral reflectivity and radiometric data images to identify untested anomalies that might represent responses from buried kimberlite pipes, dykes and sills. Several known kimberlites exist within the licence area, and their magnetic and radiometric signatures were used to inform the study. An interpretation of the radiometric data for potassium was performed in the hope of finding surface expressions of the breakdown of potassium-rich primary rock minerals that are characteristic major components of a kimberlite. However, the later on-ground inspection of K-anomalous sites revealed that they instead merely follow the mapped trends for some outcropping bedrock shale and siltstone units of the Adelaidean metasedimentary succession. Examination of the regional total magnetic intensity image resulted in the selection of twelve anomalies of interest for further follow-up, initially to consist of loam sampling for diamond indicator minerals, plus local geological and structural mapping.
