A narrow north-south aligned area centred approximately 25 km west-northwest of Port Lincoln, which is mainly covered by Quaternary ferricrete, has been taken up by Centrex Metals Ltd to explore for possible concealed economic deposits of iron ores similar to those mined in the Precambrian rocks of the Middleback Range. The exploration target units of Banded Iron Formations (BIF) form part of an extensive early Proterozoic BIF sequence belonging to the Middleback Subgroup of the Hutchison Group. Work undertaken during the first year of tenure involved desk-based geophysical and geological studies of the local iron ore potential, and was based largely on newly reprocessed aeromagnetic data and modelling of selected magnetic anomalies. Strongly folded areas which could have potential for either buried magnetite or haematite - rich beds were identified. During licence Year 2, a single vertical exploratory RC drillhole was completed to 46 m depth to test the western end of the Bald Hill prospect which lies mainly on adjacent Centrex tenements.
