Two separate areas respectively located ~40 km west-northwest and ~40 km east-northeast of Coober Pedy have been explored for possible buried economic epithermal/hydrothermal IOCG mineralisation which might have formed within the basement rocks of the Mabel Creek High near its southern boundary extending along the Horse Camp Fault. Following the conduct of three-dimensional inversion modelling of available regional geophysical data, parts of a multi-licence detailed airborne magnetic and radiometric survey were flown over both EL 4489 (total 1926 line km) and EL 4491 (total 626 line km) for Teck by contractor Aeroquest Airborne during May-June 2011, with a north-south flight line spacing of 200 m. The resulting data provided improved resolution of magnetic features and structural trends. Next, Aboriginal heritage protection work area clearance surveys were completed over parts of EL 4489 in places where licensee Teck proposed to undertake infill ground gravity surveying. No such clearances were required for doing ground gravity surveying on EL 4491. A PACE Initiative - subsidised ground gravity survey was acquired on the two subject licences between 30th June and 10th July 2011, when 318 stations were read on EL 4489 and 131 stations on EL 4491. The survey was designed to infill existing, relatively widely-spaced Government and historical company gravity data, to provide better resolution of existing and new gravity anomalies at a scale applicable to IOCG exploration. The new airborne magnetic/ radiometric data and the infill gravity data improved the resolution of coincident magnetic/gravity anomalies and of responses from structural features such as faults. Although numerous linear magnetic highs were evident in the data, no large and compelling IOCG targets were identified on the licenses. The magnetic highs were believed to represent buried rock strata such as BIF and magnetite-bearing gneisses rather than large-scale metasomatic accumulations of magnetite. Following an internal review and re-prioritisation of the company's exploration projects, a decision was made to surrender both of the licenses.
