Drilling of 27 appraisal NQ diamond cored holes for a total penetration of 1538 m over the period October 1984 to May 1985 (2 holes being abandoned at shallow depth due to having drilling difficulties within broken quartzite) has defined 5 new buried talc lodes and has enabled the calculation of indicated remaining in situ and recoverable ore reserves for the adjoining Mount Fitton No. 5 Extension and Mount Fitton No. 33 talc deposits. Representative core samples of talc taken from the various lenses were graded for their colour, solubility in acid and loss on ignition. This work has outlined at the No. 5 Extension deposit, 34,160 tonnes of talc recoverable by open cut mining methods, and at No. 33 deposit, 9450 tonnes likewise subcropping to the south of the present quarry. The talc is generally of medium grade, but 12,000 tonnes of higher grade ore are present in Lenses 2 and 3 at No. 5 Extension, beneath the floor of the present quarry.
