A small licence area located 30 km north of Fowlers Bay in far western South Australia has been explored for possible economic Tertiary mineral sands deposits, but specific activities on it were repeatedly postponed by the licensee not committing the funds needed to meet licence obligations, with portions of ground instead successively being relinquished. No on-ground field work took place during the entire eight-year term of tenure, although some stratigraphic traverse drilling was planned to occur in the north-eastern corner of the licence. During early June 2010, Bemax conducted some mineral sands RAB drilling on joint venture partner Red Metal's Barton EL 3495 that was located nearly 140 km away to the north-northeast, and later also contributed to the cost of a REPTEM aerial EM survey flown there which was intended to help define basement structures. During June-July 2013, a 10,946 line km airborne magnetic/radiometric survey was flown by UTS Geophysics across four of the JV tenements, i.e. ELs 4245, 4777, 5080 and 5235; this included 1414 line km of coverage on the subject EL 5080, which represents the only new exploratory work directly attributable to that licence. A single traverse, 50 aircore hole drilling programme PEPR for the subject renewed EL 5080 was submitted to DSD in August 2014 for approval. However, only a few months later, without having drill tested the area's strata, the licensee decided to surrender the licence due to its (then perceived) diminished prospectivity for finding significant heavy mineral marine placer occurrences, using a reason vaguely described as the lack of ?viable host sand units.
