An area centred ~15 km east of Eudunda, in the north-eastern Mount Lofty Ranges, has been explored initially for possible economic outcropping stratabound/replacement style phosphate mineralisation that may have formed within Adelaidean dolomitic metasediments, and subsequently, for buried economic stratabound/metamorphic graphite mineralisation that it was hoped might exist within the Karinya Syncline Cambrian carbonaceous black shale units. During licence Year 1, the licensee undertook an interpretation of available open file radiometric data to try to identify outcropping or near-surface phosphate prospects. This exercise proved unrewarding, partly because of missing potassium channel radiometric data. During licence Year 2, the exploration focus shifted to an assessment of graphite potential. Stored drillhole cuttings samples of the target Karinya Shale were obtained from the DSD Core Library to submit for analysis of their total carbon content, but the assay results from the 9 samples tested were disappointing. Selected samples of Cambrian rock material from stored historic diamond drill cores cut by the E&WS Dept in 1965 at the Sutherland quartzite quarry were also taken and submitted for multi-element analysis, to help evaluate the host unit's mineralisation potential. No further work was done during licence Years 3 and 4, before the decision was made to fully surrender tenure.
