A small licence area located 170 km north-northwest of Fowlers Bay in far western South Australia is being explored for possible economic Tertiary heavy mineral sands (HMS) deposits, targeting accumulations of rutile, zircon or ilmenite that may have formed as marginal marine strandline placers. Under tenure of previous EL 3147, licensee Red Metal's exploration work then was directed at finding basement-hosted IOCG type mineralisation included the reprocessing of existing regional aeromagnetic survey data, the conduct of a reconnaissance gravity survey, and performing soil geochemical sampling over portions of the tenement (see an earlier data release made in November 2013 as Env 10426). During late July 2013, an airborne magnetic/radiometric survey was flown by UTS Geophysics Pty Ltd for Cristal Exploration. The survey dataset was received by Cristal in early October 2013, and then was sent to Vector Research Pty Ltd in Perth for post-processing. The processed data products were received from Vector Research in early January 2014. Cristal's subsequent selection of possible Tertiary marginal marine palaeogeomorphic HMS entrapment targets, or shallow depth faults within the licence area, was based predominantly on recognition of contrasting features on the DTM image and across all radiometric channels and ratio images provided by UTS. However, the now relinquished licence portions were interpreted by Cristal as having only outcropping Nullabor Limestone marine shelf strata, i.e. they are devoid of an overlying beach sand unit, and thus are unprospective for HMS.
