An area located immediately south and east of Woomera township has been acquired to search for possible buried economic stratabound deposits of copper or other metals that may have formed in the Neoproterozoic and Mesoproterozoic cover sequence of the Stuart Shelf. The exploration model being followed adopts new ideas about the deposition of Cattle Grid style copper sulphide mineralisation from reduced metal-bearing fluids, where those fluids came into contact with oxidised rocks, such as iron oxide-cemented redbeds. A required relinquishment of 25% of the licence area at the end of its second year was made during January 2015. Examination of available remote sensing data identified one possible target in the now relinquished portion of the licence. This spectral anomaly (Waypoint 4) is located about 4 km north-west of Marsella Hill, and appears as a darker area on Google Earth and ASTER false colour imagery. A field inspection showed that it coincides with a canegrass swamp. The probable cause of the dark feature is the sun shadow thrown by tall vegetation growing in the swamp, rather than any geological influence.
