An area centred approximately 120 km west of Coober Pedy was taken up to explore for possible economic buried IOCG, Challenger type gold-only or MVT base metal mineralisation that may have formed in Archaean to Proterozoic basement rocks or in the overlying Palaeozoic sedimentary cover of the Officer and Arckaringa basins. Following its review of relevant open file reports, published technical papers and geophysical data, Woomera Exploration decided to relinquish the northern 76% of EL 5292 because there the crystalline basement appears to covered by a thick sequence of sediments, making for overly expensive drilling to reach the basement rocks. The licensee intends to conduct a 500 m x 500 m station spacing gravity survey on the retained portion of EL 5292, to aid in drill target generation.
