In late November 2012, three adjoining areas in the central Gawler Craton were taken up by Woomera Exploration Limited (WEX), an unlisted public company, for the purpose of minerals exploration. Within the subject licence area which is centred ~30 km north-northwest of Kingoonya, the company's exploration target is possible economic buried IOCG type base and precious metals mineralisation that may have formed in Mesoproterozoic basement rocks. In February 2015, WEX completed a technical review of the prospectivity of its licences, and from doing that it decided to surrender a combined ~50% of its initial ground holdings, including 470 square km or 64% of the subject EL 5113 in its northern part. Here the top of crystalline basement appears to be too deep to allow for affordable exploration. However, geophysical data and evidence from limited past drilling done in the retained licence portion indicate that the basement there is both shallow and prospective. No work has been done on the now surrendered part of EL 5113. WEX intends to conduct a semi-regional 500 m x 500 m ground gravity survey in the retained portion of EL 5113 to progress target generation.
