An area centred ~36 km west of Quinyambie Homestead has been explored for possible buried economic sedimentary uranium mineralisation of palaeochannel hosted roll-front style that may have formed in relatively more distal Tertiary basinal sediments, as well as in underlying Mesozoic sediments. Eventually, twelve other tenements located in the eastern and northern Lake Frome region were taken up by licensee Marmota Energy (Marmota) for this purpose also, and two logical groupings of them were each granted combined exploration expenditure and reporting status by DMITRE. During the initial year of tenure, in June 2009, a trial helicopter-assisted ground gravity survey was acquired on the northern sub-block of EL 4252 Lake Coonee, when 1700 new gravity stations were read on a regular 500 m x 500 m grid spacing across all of it. The resulting detailed gravity data were thought to possibly indicate some small discrete palaeochannels, but without obtaining confirmation by doing follow-up drilling, Marmota was unsure about whether these are true palaeochannels or are just ‘artefacts’ produced from the processing of the gravity data. Viewed in hindsight, it was stated that it is difficult to utilise gravity surveying to delineate palaeochannels in these types of subsurface geological environments, due to the palaeochannel fill sediments having been deposited by incision into similar geological formations. Because there is no real density contrast between the units, detecting subtle anomalies hidden amongst the gravity data becomes less accurate. Hence it was suggested that other geophysical methods, plus soil gas radon emanometry surveys, should be trialled to try to obtain more clear anomalous responses. During the following year, no field work was done. On 23/11/2010, an exploration work area Aboriginal heritage protection clearance agreement was signed with the Adnyamathanha Traditional Lands Association, that applied to all of Marmota's Lake Frome Project tenements, covering various parcels of land that were subject to Native Title claims or that lay just outside of the claim areas. No field work was done either during four subsequent years of tenure, before a decision was made late in February 2015 to fully surrender all of the remaining project licences (since ELs 4252, 4253 and 4256 had been jointly surrendered prior to this, on 20/3/2014).
