GEL 264 (497.1km2) and GEL 265 (497.2km2) were both granted to Tri-Star Energy Company on 14th August 2007 for an initial period of 5 years. Both licences cover the area of mound springs that occur along the south western edge of the Great Artesian Basin in South Australia and collectively they were known as the Mound Springs Project. The main focus of this area were the benefits and applicability of using an organic “Rankin Cycle” which uses a low boiling point organic fluid heated by warm hydrothermal fluids. The shallow artesian water of the GAB would be accessed through a single bore hole designed to be both a production bore and injection well. The artesian waters would be used to produce a steam from the organic liquid and potentially then drive a turbine/power plant. No field work was conducted in either licence and both were finally surrendered on 5th June 2012 before the end of the 5th year.
