An area centred about 80 km south-west of Coober Pedy is being explored for possible economic buried coal seams in Permian strata and for economic iron ore deposits or massive sulphide base metal mineralisation (copper, nickel) that may have formed within basement metasedimentary and igneous rocks. No field work took place on the relinquished portion of EL 4907 during its tenure. Southern Coal Holdings completed a review of previous exploration records to establish its own ideas concerning the prospectivity and geological setting of this part of the Lake Woorong region. The retained portion of the Lake Woorong tenement contains the geological province of the Coober Pedy Ridge, which is the regional host to the Andromeda and Jurby prospects. Ground magnetic surveys completed in 2013 identified drillable targets at both prospects which were scheduled for aircore drilling during 2014, but these plans had to be suspended due to site inaccessibility following a significant rainfall event in April 2014. The drilling programme is now expected to be completed during licence Year 4.
