A combined total area of 1021 square km has recently been relinquished by Iluka from three geographically separate Group 4 tenements, due to the lack of significant marine sands there and the absence of significant HM accumulations shown by first pass regional exploratory drilling. This joint decision came in response to a company review of the Group 4 land tenure which took place in January 2015. The only work done anywhere on the now relinquished ground portions occurred on the northern part of EL 4457/5583 during July 2010, when 32 open vertical RC aircore holes were drilled for 1142 m total penetration along parts of broadly spaced traverses. Drilling results were not encouraging, and this section of the Barton Range lacked geophysical targets.
