The near-surface base and precious metal potential of several possibly gossanous ironstone outcrops, that exist within a north-east trending broad domal structure in the Umberatana Group extending for 5-15 miles east of Yunta, were tested by limited rock chip sampling and by the drilling of 7 inclined percussion holes totalling 725+ feet of penetration [the log of drillhole PDH2 is missing]. The majority of the limonitic outcrops examined within the lease were interpreted not to be gossans, but two others, 2 feet and 1 foot wide respectively, which run parallel 100 feet apart for a distance of 500 feet, and dip southwards at 50 degrees, are chalcopyrite - bearing, returning assays of up to 5.3% Cu and 2150 ppm Ag , and thus were targeted by the drilling. Within these two lodes, several small and uneconomic lenses of siderite carrying minor copper-silver mineralisation were encountered near the base of the Waukaringa Siltstone by drillholes PDH3 and PDH7. A third limonite-siderite lode was also intersected by some of the drillholes, but does not outcrop. The outcropping gossans are not stratigraphically consistent, since they pinch out above drillholes PDH1 and PDH2. Because it appeared that the two mineralised structures would not improve in size or grade at depth, the licensee decided to surrender tenure.
