A small area centred ~50 km west-southwest of Kimba has been explored for possible buried base metal mineralisation, including BIF type iron ore, and also for gold and perhaps palaeochannel style uranium, that may have formed within or close to Archaean basement rocks. The overlying sedimentary cover varies from 20 m to 50 m thick, and so no bedrock crops out. During the first licence year, reconnaissance soil geochemical sampling was conducted at roadside sites located over selected magnetic strata, with samples taken from just below the surface and sieved to minus 180 microns. All 137 samples collected were submitted for laboratory partial leach multi-element analysis. The assay results were disappointing, with the exception of low level tungsten, to 20 ppb W, detected in two locations that are possibly connected by the margin of a linear magnetic feature. It had earlier been noted by Investigator that just to the west of EL 5270 is the Meaneys prospect, where in the 1980s minor scheelite mineralisation had been recorded from a number of holes drilled by BHP, who were searching for stratabound silver-lead-zinc deposits. During licence Year 2, no work was done. The planned follow-up soil sampling did not eventuate. A decision was made at year end to allow tenure to lapse.
