A small part of the Lincoln Uplands on east-central Eyre Peninsula, which is centred ~20 km north-east of Cummins, has been explored for possible economic buried graphite and/or base metal mineralisation that may have formed in metamorphosed Palaeoproterozoic basement sedimentary and intrusive igneous rocks. Although there are a few isolated BIF outcrops and minor aeromagnetic anomalies with the Tarlinga area, the tenement was not regarded as prospective for iron ore deposits. At the start of tenure, a desktop review of all previous exploration drillhole and water well drilling records was undertaken. The review was specifically targeting graphite, with notable occurrences of metaliferous minerals also being targeted. The review looked at depth to basement, groundwater details and drillers logs. It was found that less than 20 holes exist within the licence area, and of those only two holes had gone further than 20 m into the ground, with the majority being less than 2 m in depth. Having such scant guidance from historic subsurface information, Lincoln Minerals was obliged to conduct a field reconnaissance visit to inspect local outcrops. No signs of the presence of graphite or base metal - bearing minerals were seen. The company has now decided to concentrate its efforts elsewhere in the region on investigating higher priority graphite and base metal targets, and thus has fully surrendered the subject licence.
