Exploration carried out near an historically worked small occurrence of stratiform base metal mineralisation near Balcanoona in the central Flinders Ranges, 50 miles east of Copley, aiming to follow up reported surface geochemical anomalies, has consisted of 1:2400 scale geological mapping of the Cambrian rocks in the nose of an anticline, the collection and assaying of stream sediment and bedrock grab samples, and the acquisition of SP profiles along four short traverses laid out across the target formation on the east limb of the anticline, adjacent to a fault zone. Although final results of much of this work are not yet available, rock chips sampled from the target Parachilna Formation showed copper values ranging from 0.01%-5.54% Cu. Most of these samples were of highly leached sandstone rather than gossan, and several of them returned high yttrium values (up to 2500 ppm Y). Some samples taken from within the major fault zone contain visible cinnabar, and averaged 4.95% Hg.
