A diamond drilling programme of 3 holes totalling 1284 feet of penetration was carried out on the Baratta Mining Field to test two IP anomalous zones trending easterly and lying approximately 10,000 feet apart. The objectives were to investigate the possibility of economic galena mineralisation occurring at depth in the vicinity of the abandoned Cross Crusader and Eukaby lead-zinc workings, and to prospect for possible copper mineralisation hosted within the unexposed Tindelpina Shale. None of the drillholes encountered significant sulphide mineralisation. 2-4% pyrite was the main sulphide mineral present, occurring as disseminated small euhedral crystals in shale, sandstone and turbidite carbonaceous layers and cross-cutting veinlets, with minor galena observed in some fracture-filling quartz veins at depth in DDH 1. The oxidised zone in all holes was characterised by strong ferruginization and the pervasive presence of manganese oxides.
