EL 5520 is being explored as part of a regional search for possible economic Beltana-style zinc silicate hydrothermal replacement mineralisation hosted by brecciated Cambrian or Neoproterozoic bedrock carbonates. No field work was completed by licence operator Perilya over the now relinquished portion of the tenement, including over its predecessor tenements. The only new exploration data which was collected over the subject area was a subset of Aster multispectral data that was purchased over the entirety of Perilya’s tenement holdings in the region in late 2011. The satellite remote sensing data has been primarily used by Perilya to identify prospective carbonate strata, achieved through estimating quartz index ratios from the spectra and at the same time looking for possible hematitic alteration using iron index ratios. No additional targets were generated from the multispectral data analysis work. The now relinquished area is wholly covered with Quaternary aeolian and alluvial sediments, obscuring the older bedrock. No historic drilling is known to have been completed in this area, to qualify what the cover thickness is: however, past drilling done by BHP and ETSA on a tenement located to the south-east suggests that the local depth to bedrock could be in excess of 195 m. No surface geochemical data appears to be available for this area. Because of the thick cover and the lack of guiding historical exploration information, Perilya considers that conventional exploration techniques would difficult to apply in the Mount Parry area. From existing knowledge of the nature of zinc silicate deposits in the region, the only viable exploration method to follow would seem to be to perform wide-spaced reconnaissance RC drilling, which at present is considered to be too costly and inefficient an option. Accordingly, it was recommended that most (67%) of the ground being held be relinquished.
