GEL 166 and GEL 168 were granted to Eden Energy on 7th Sept 2004 for an initial period of 5 years. GEL 167 was granted on 13th July 2005. Collectively these contiguous licences were known as the Witchelina/Mulgaria project. Initial target in the project area was to locate an RIO (Radiogenic Iron oxide) anomaly, where the in situ decay of radioactive minerals generates a thermal heat source. In favourable conditions temperatures of greater than 200 degrees at depths of approximately 2000m might be expected. The West Well geophysical anomaly was selected as a potential RIO system. Drill hole WWD 1, drilled in 1978/79 by WMC had a total depth of 762m targeted this anomaly but failed to intersect basement. Located on the axis of both a gavity and magnetic anomaly it was hoped that this large anomaly was representing a deep body rich in a uranium mineralogy a covered by thick Adelaide Geosynclinal sediments. Eden Energy completed an interpretation of existing gravity and magnetic data and these results are presented. Re-entry into the existing WWD 1 drill hole was proposed to allow temperature logging, petrophysical measurements on new core etc. in order to allow a robust estimate of heat flow and temperature to be made. All 3 licences were surrendered before entering Year 4 of the licences.
