Exploration for sedimentary uranium in the western Lake Frome region, addressing a re-entrant intramontane sub-basin located near Wirrealpa, has comprised sampling and analysis of groundwaters, an airborne scintillometer reconnaisance survey, and an open hole rotary drilling programme (14 vertical holes, total 4929 feet). Results of the water sampling and aerial surveying were negative, but one significant U anomaly was detected in drillhole W3 at 670 feet depth, near the base of the Tertiary sequence. Because of the depth and tight, argillaceous nature of the target section, coupled with the otherwise perceived poor prospectivity of this region, a decision was made not to continue with drilling or further exploratory work.
