A large, >23 mGal positive regional gravity centred approximately 6 miles south-southeast of Naracoorte township has been explored for its metallic mineral potential by conducting soil mercury sampling, ground magnetic traverses, a detailed airborne magnetic survey, and follow-up detailed soil mercury sampling over identified discrete aeromagnetic anomalies. The ground magnetic data appeared to indicate that an extensive low order magnetically anomalous zone coincided with the gravity anomaly, but this assumption was later disproved by the results of the airborne magnetic survey flown over an 18 square mile grid, which showed that the ground traverses had inadvertently followed along narrow magnetic highs which are now believed to arise from a folded rock horizon. A single detailed mercury sampling traverse with samples taken at 200 foot intervals was laid out across three minor magnetic highs revealed by the aeromagnetic survey. The assay results were not sufficiently encouraging for North to want to proceed with drilling at any of these locations.
