GEL’s 296,303,305,306,307 and 350 were 6 contiguous licences granted to Callabonna Energy Pty Ltd on 7th March 2008. The total surface area of the licences was 2875km2 and collectively they were known as the Callabonna Energy Project (CEP).Centred on an area around Lake Callabonna the project focussed on the north-east structural margin of the Curnamona Craton within the Frome Embayment area. This area was identified as having a high potential for geothermal energy as it lies within the South Australian heat flow Anomaly where high heat producing granites are interpreted to occur at depth. Dayboro Geophysical reprocessed 94kms of seismic line 84-SPK which traverses the eastern most licences GEL 306, 307 and 350. It was hoped that reprocessing would define basin structures, define crystalline basement and locations of any sub basins. Unfortunately all that was confirmed was the existence of a thin veneer of Mesozoic sediments lying on a shallow basement which has a maximum depth of about 700m at the north eastern end. The licences were allowed to expire at the end of the 3rd licence year on 6th March 2011.
