5 separate GEL licence areas were granted to Greenrock Energy Ltd on15th Nov 2007 for an initial period of 5 years. Licences 245 and 245 were located on the western side of Spencer Gulf near Whyalla while licences 246, 247 and 248 were on the eastern side of Spencer Gulf centred on an area around Pt Augusta to Pt Pirie. The focus of these licences was the geothermal potential of the area and the likelihood of “hot” Hiltaba Granites occurring at depth. To this end a complete search for available drill holes greater than 50 m depth for which a temperature probe could be loaded and available core that could be assessed for Thermal Conductivity was completed. 10 holes on the western side of Spencer Gulf had bottom hole temperatures measured and 4 holes on the eastern side were logged. Further, 21 core specimens of representative lithologies were measured for Thermal conductivity. The licence lapsed at the end of the 5th licence year on 14thNov 2012.
