Three contiguous licences were granted to Green Rock Energy Pty Ltd on 17 August 2007 for an initial term of 5 years. These licences were located in the south western end of the Patchawarra Trough in the Cooper Basin and the initial focus was on areas of permeable units within the Patchawarra Formation and Tirrawarra Sandstone with temperatures greater than 140?. A review of available temperature data, lithologies, heat flows and gradients plus porosities and permeabilities was completed from available petroleum drill holes. Green Rock energy was a member of a group of companies who sponsored a multi-client study involving the measurement of thermal conductivity and density of 115 core specimens from selected wells in the Cooper basin area. This study was conducted by Hot Dry Rocks and other members of the consortium were PIRSA, Panax and Strike Energy. The licence expired on 16th August 2012 with no further work completed.
