The Boolooroo licence area is located ~ 40 km north-east of Leigh Creek township, in the ranges lying immediately east of the Telford coal basin, are being explored for possible economic occurrences of marble rock which are believed to hold enormous commercial potential within local and export marketplaces. Other targets recognised in the area are probable gold across the Boolooroo Goldfield and base metal deposits associated with diapiric structures, mafic intrusive rocks and altered Proterozoic carbonate rocks. There is an east west running valley with Cambrian sequences on the northern side and Balcanoona Formation dolomite and limestones on the southern side. The Cambrian sequence of interest is a mottled limestone that is more crystalline near to the mining lease ML 6246, and it is believed this is due to the diapiric structure that extend to the east. When this diapiric material was thrust upwards it caused localised metamorphism within the limestone (Wilkawillina Limestone) andalso caused the limestone to be pushed up, so the beds now dip about 70 degrees to the north. It is suspected that the diapiric material extends along the valley but is not exposed in most places as it is covered by alluvium and creek material. Within the Balcanoona Formation occurrence of high grade, white, coarsely crystalline magnesite formed by “post-depositional metasomatic replacement of dolomite of the Balcanoona Formation” at Weetootla Gorge are recorded. Numerous occurrences of coarsely crystalline magnesite occur within this exploration licence. The concept that the magnesite deposits in the area are post depositional is quite clearly evident in the area. These masses occur within the Balcanoona Formation and often are evident because the native Black Oaks tend to preferentially grow in their vicinity. It is believed that this magnesite is formed by hydrothermal fluids entering old caves systems within the Balcanoona Formation. The Boolooroo Diapir is located at the western end of Exploration Licence EL 3696, Previously copper and gold has been mined within this diapir. Most of the copper came from a strata-bound deposit from within the quartzite and a smaller amount is located near the northern edge of the diapir within the Wilkawillina Limestone where it is associated with specularite. The trachyte body also contains xenoliths which can show copper mineralisation in small amounts but mainly evident is evidence or impregnation of iron minerals including veins of specularite. Some small gold workings also exist within this volcanic. Ground magnetic surveys and an EM survey has been conducted over the tenement plus a number of samples from a siliceous/gossanous vein system that runs for approximately 2 km proximal to the Boolooroo diapir were geochemical analysed.
