Two adjacent areas which are respectively centred near and to the south-west of Kimba are being explored for buried basement-hosted gold and nickel mineralisation, and, following establishment of a joint venture, for possible IOCG type deposits and palaeochannel uranium mineralisation. During the first year of tenure, grid-based reconnaissance soil, calcrete and rock chip (1329 samples) surface geochemical sampling of areas with underlying major structural features in the basement was undertaken during October 2007 on the recommendation of a geological consultant. To complement the partial leach analysis geochemistry input, a semi-regional ground gravity survey of 1371 stations was read over a 1 km x 1 km grid covering both licence areas in August-September 2008. During licence Year 2, Southern Uranium undertook several field reconnaissance trips, acquired ground magnetic surveys over two targets, Norwood and Caralue South-west, and did infill 500 m x 500 m grid-based soil geochemical sampling (1189 samples). An initial phase of exploratory aircore bedrock test drilling was started, however the program was placed on hold to await the end of the crop harvest. Of the 6 holes planned to be drilled over the Paracombe target, only 4 were able to be drilled during the reporting period, for a total penetration of 281 m. The one drill traverse involved was planned to lie across a single point uranium anomalous soil sample surrounded by soil samples only displaying low level anomalism. Assay results for the Paracombe target were disappointing; the highest bedrock sample assay value returned was only 14.5 ppm U. During licence Year 3, a third, infill phase of soil geochemical sampling (569 samples) was conducted on a 250 m x 250 m grid over selected anomalous areas. A detailed, 312 station ground gravity survey was also read at 100 m x 400 m station spacing over the Norwood target on EL 3645 during December 2009. The continuation of the proposed aircore drilling program was further postponed because Southern Uranium had to remain focussed on drilling work needed at its several other key projects, i.e. the Jungle Dam Fe Project, the Ridgeback Cu-Au Project and the Peterlumbo Au-Ag Project.
