GEL 321 was granted to New Geothermal Energy Pty Ltd on 20/4/2009 for an initial period of 5 years. The licence was centred on the Leigh Creek coal mining operations and in particular the geothermal potential the spoil dumps offered. This focus soon changed to deeper horizons and the potential to recover oil and/or gas from these deeper formations. Funding was sought to support the proposed exploration activities but was largely unsuccessful and the licence surrendered on 19th April 2012at the end of year 3.
