An area extending for 40 km to the west and south of Wudinna was taken up by Minotaur to evaluate the economic potential of known but poorly defined occurrences of the industrial minerals gypsum and alunite. The company's office-based compilation and review during 2015 of historical company and government exploration data indicated that the saline depression called Samphire Flat contains gypsiferous lunettes overlying saline gypsiferous lacustrine sediments, with a combined gypsum resource of 2.777 Mt @ 90.0% gypsum (gypsarenite and gypsite). This historical resource estimate is not compliant with the 2014 JORC Code. It was stated that the gypsum concentration within lacustrine sediments broadly decreases with depth, and that the upper gypsum-rich layer is less than ~1 m thick. The gypsum abundance and grade at Lake Yaninee are apparently lower, but past investigations are restricted to only 3 hand auger holes. From Minotaur's studies of recent airborne geophysical and remote sensing imagery acquired over the subject area, it was thought possible that significant amounts of alunite ((KAl3(OH)6(SO4)2) may be present in the sediments at Lake Wannamana and two other un-named nearby salt lakes, which it was noticed all have an unusually high K channel radiometric response. Therefore it was recommended that further on-ground investigations should be done there to ascertain if alunite actually is quite abundant, having formed in an unusual lakebed setting which Minotaur has surmised may be due to deep Tertiary weathering and acid groundwater flow. Minotaur also assessed the mineral prospectivity significance of the regional magnetic and gravity data related to EL 5365, and that work confirmed a regional solid geology interpretation made by DMITRE of Hiltaba Suite granitic plutons, ~10–20 km across, intruding gneisses and metamorphic units of the Archean Sleaford Complex. It was observed that the granite plutons have a low to modest magnetic signature characterised by evidence of NW-trending joints and fractures, and that they correspond to distinct lows within the Bouguer Anomaly gravity image. Some high amplitude magnetic anomalies also seen near Yaninee are small, only 2–5 km across, and are believed to represent Mesoproterozoic gabbroic plugs emplaced broadly synchronously with the Hiltaba Suite plutons. All of the magnetic and gravity anomalies noted on EL 5365 were interpreted by Minotaur to primarily reflect stratigraphic units, and appeared to offer minimal potential for base metal mineralisation. During the second licence year, attempts were made to secure a funding partner to help fully evaluate the commercial potential of gypsum and alunite within EL 5365. This step proved fruitless, and so Minotaur decided to allow tenure to lapse.
