GEL 353 was granted to New World Energy Solutions Pty Ltd on 25th August 2008. GEL 353 is located over the early Permian Renmark Trough area of the Murray Basin and is thought to contain up to 3500m of sediments at its deepest point overlying a pre Devonian basement. The licence area was known as the “Danggali Project” and the target for this area was either hot aquifers from within the sedimentary sequence or an Enhanced Geothermal System (EGS) utilizing heat from favourable basement rocks. There is a temperature anomaly on the Austherm 2003 image coincident with the Renmark Trough in the licence area and high heat flows have been recorded in several wells located in the near vicinity. Hot Dry Rocks were commissioned to conduct a review of the geothermal tenements held by New World Energy Solutions Pty Ltd and while further work was recommended for this licence no further activities were undertaken and the licence expired on 9th June 2010.
