Eleven (11) contiguous Geothermal Licences were granted to Green Rock Energy Ltd on 31st October 2008 for an initial term of 5 years. These licences were situated near the NW edge of the Cooper Basin in an area to the north of Clifton Hills station. The focus of exploration was the search and potential for deeply buried sedimentary aquifers (DBSA). The Kuncherinna 1 well was central to the exercise with a bottom hole temperature recorded of 122C at 2866m depth. Up to 3500m of Triassic, Jurassic and Cretaceous sediments are thought to exist in parts of the area. Hot Dry Rocks Pty Ltd measured thermal conductivity on cores from the adjacent Pandieburra well and Green Rock Energy was a joint sponsor of a basin wide project involving the measurement of thermal conductivities of 115 core samples from across the Cooper Basin area, including the Pandieburra and Putamurdie wells. This project was also completed by Hot Dry Rocks Pty Ltd. The licence was finally surrendered on 30th October 2013 at the end of the 5th licence year.
