GEL 563, 564 and 565 were granted to Roxby Geothermal Pty Ltd on 18th may 2011 for an initial period of 5 years. This set of contiguous licences are all located in the Stuart Shelf Region and all on the western side of Lake Torrens. Hot Dry Rocks Pty Ltd were commissioned to conduct a Geological and Geophysical Review of the licence areas with a view to locating and delineating areas of enhanced geothermal potential. The Roxby Geothermal Project area lies within the South Australian Heat Flow Anomaly (SAHFA) region and the source of this anomalous temperature is thought to be related to high concentrations of radioactive minerals in the basement rocks. Hot Dry Rocks undertook an extensive study of all available drill-holes and recorded precision logging for temperature, calculated Heat Flow Measurements for 54 well sites and thermal conductivities were estimated for a wide range of formations in the Stuart Shelf area from available drill cores. Finally there were estimates of Heat Generation for basement rocks in the Geothermal Project area based on proportions of contained Uranium, Thorium and Potassium. After a 12 month suspension of licence commitments and variations all three licences were surrendered on 29th April 2016.
