In a continuation of uranium exploration being carried out over the oldest basement rocks forming inliers to the Adelaide Geosyncline within the southern Mount Lofty Ranges, several minor radiometric anomalies near Mount Compass, that were indicated by the licensee's airborne scintillometer survey carried out in 1968, were found to correspond to areas of maximum topographic relief, so it is suspected that many may be caused by erroneous readings arising from misapplied elevation corrections of the aerial data. The remainder appear to be due to actual minor concentrations of uranium mineralisation, along with iron oxides, in near-surface lateritised horizons, an entrainment ostensibly brought about by the circulation of groundwater via faults and shears in the underlying basement rocks.
